What makes an audiogram worth watching
- One self contained thought. A clip that needs the previous two minutes to make sense loses people in the first second.
- Start on the sentence, not on the breath before it. Silence at the front reads as a broken file.
- Short enough to finish. A clip someone watches to the end is worth more than a longer one they leave.
- Readable at a glance. Cover art with small type becomes unreadable at phone size, so a plain image with a face or a logo holds up better.
Cover art, a photo, or no picture at all
| Picture | What people see | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Cover art and waveform | Your show artwork with the waveform moving near the bottom | Episode clips posted to your own feed, where the artwork is the brand |
| A photo and waveform | A photo of the host or guest with the waveform over it | A guest episode, where the face is the reason to listen |
| Waveform only | A white waveform on black | A quick quote clip when there is no artwork to hand |
Want the host on screen instead of a waveform?
A waveform shows that sound is happening. A face speaking holds attention differently, because people watch people. Audio driven lip sync animates a photo of your host to this same audio file, so the clip you just made can become the host saying it.
