Browsers cannot save this audio as a file. It plays on your speakers only.

Want it as an audio file, in your own cloned voice, or spoken by a talking photo?

Make it on Percify. A cloned voice costs 2 credits for up to 40 words, then 1 credit per 15 words. Plans start at $12 a month.

How it works

  1. Step 1

    Paste your text

Up to 3,000 characters: an article, a script, an email or notes you want to hear.

  2. Step 2

    Pick a voice

Choose a language and one of the voices your device has. The list opens on your browser’s language.

  3. Step 3

    Press play

Set the speed and pitch, then play, pause or stop. Change a setting and press play again to hear it.

Why the voices differ on every device

This tool does not have voices of its own. It asks your browser to speak, and the browser uses the voices your operating system and browser provide. So the same text sounds different on a phone, a Mac, a Windows laptop or a Chromebook, and the list of languages changes too.

Some voices are installed on the device and work offline. Others, often marked as online or network voices, are streamed by the browser maker and need a connection. If a language you need is missing, add a voice for it in your device’s language or speech settings and reload this page.

  • On iPhone and iPad, more voices can be downloaded in the accessibility settings under spoken content.
  • On Android, the voices come from the text to speech engine chosen in the device settings.
  • On Windows and macOS, extra voices are added in the system language or speech settings.

When you need an AI voice instead

Browser voices are good for listening: proofreading a script, hearing an article while you do something else, or checking how a line sounds. They are not made for publishing. A browser cannot save what it speaks as an audio file, and the voice you hear depends on the listener’s device, not yours.

For a voiceover, a video or anything you share, you need a voice that renders to a file and sounds the same everywhere. That is what an AI voice generator does, and with voice cloning it can be your own voice reading the script.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you start.

Yes. It is free with no sign up and no limit on how often you use it, because the speaking is done by your own browser. Each read is capped at 3,000 characters.

No. Browsers speak the text through your speakers but do not let a web page save that audio as a file. To get an audio file, use an AI voice generator such as Percify, which renders the voice to a file you can download.

Not to Percify. The text is handed to your browser’s own speech feature and Percify never receives it. Installed voices speak on your device; voices marked online or network are run by the browser maker, so with those the browser sends the text to its own service.

The voices come from your device and browser, not from this page. Add voices in your device’s language or speech settings and reload. Some browsers, including many in app browsers, have no voices at all; open the page in Chrome, Safari or Edge.

Each operating system ships its own voices. The same text and settings use whichever voice that device has, so the sound changes from device to device.

Not in the browser. Percify can clone your voice from a short recording and read any script with it. A cloned voice costs 2 credits for a script up to 40 words, then 1 credit per 15 words, and plans start at $12 a month.
