How the loop is made

The looper tells FFmpeg to read the file several times in a row and copies the video and audio streams straight into one output, with no re encoding. That is why it takes seconds rather than minutes, and why the quality is exactly the original’s.

For a seamless loop, start and end the clip on similar frames. A loop that jumps is usually a clip whose first and last frames differ.

Loop or GIF?

A looped video keeps sound and full colour, and most platforms autoplay it. A GIF has no sound and at most 256 colours per frame, but loops forever everywhere; the free video to GIF converter makes one.
